Bronx’s Gun Hill Brewing opens taproom in Brooklyn’s Industry City

December 8, 2022Pretty Much a Press Release

In 2014, Gun Hill Brewing Co opened the first production brewery in the Bronx since 1961. In 2022, Gun Hill Brewing, a Bronx-based microbrewery, opened its first Brooklyn taproom at Industry City, the 16-building, 6 million-sq-ft creative campus located on the Sunset Park, Brooklyn waterfront. The new 6,249-sq-ft space will include a taproom and onsite brewery as an extension of Gun Hill’s dedication to serving the freshest, locally handcrafted beers.

Featured menu items include new, small batch beers brewed onsite and available exclusively at Industry City in addition to long-standing Gun Hill Brewing favorites. These beers will feature locally sourced ingredients, true to the signature style and approach that has been Gun Hill Brewery’s since inception.

“Industry City has always been about showing the process behind a product, so full-fledged production facilities with tasting rooms just make sense here,” said Jim Somoza, managing director and partner at Industry City. “Gun Hill joins our bloc of New York-original brewers and distillers whose passion for their product comes through during the tasting experience. The staff here aren’t mixologists or bartenders slinging well liquor — they’re masters of their craft who want to share their knowledge — likely over a beverage.”

Gun Hill Brewing joins a vibrant ecosystem of businesses, including a thriving roster of locally owned breweries, distilleries, and tasting rooms where visitors can view the production process up close. Existing vendors include:

  • Big ALICe Brewing; an experimental brewery with a tasting room and a barrel room;
  • Brooklyn Kura, an American craft sake brewer;
  • Fort Hamilton Distillery,  producing the finest New York Rye Whiskey, Bourbon, and more from locally sourced grains all on campus;
  • Barrow’s Intense, boasting Brooklyn-made ginger liqueur with a recently renovated tasting room; and
  • Standard Wormwood Distillery, where all spirits and liqueurs are distilled with wormwood herbs for a layered complexity.

“We’re very excited to finally join Industry City. This was a project we were working on pre-COVID, so to see it finally come to fruition is something we are proud of,” said Dave Lopez, co-managing partner of Gun Hill Brewing. “We look forward to experimenting and creating some unique beer exclusively for our Taproom here in the very near future.”

Gun Hill Brewing was established yards away from the famed Gun Hill Road in the Bronx, the site of a strategic battle of the Revolutionary War where historically, colonists dragged a cannon up the hill in defense of their ideals and fired to force away the British Army. While the brewery lends its name from the historical site, its values and personality reflect the heroes of that time. Today, Gun Hill Brewery utilizes fresh, local ingredients to create brews that are not only unique but have a quality equal to their passion for making it.

Gun Hill Brewing is located at 68 34th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232 in Industry City’s Building 6 and is open Tuesday through Friday, 1 p.m.–10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 12 p.m.–10 p.m.
