CBB Interview: Grand Canyon Brewing explains the Arizona craft beer scene

October 25, 2017Chris Crowell

The power in craft beer lies not in its ever expanding number of businesses (5,600+ craft breweries right now), but in the ethos of each individual brewery. At this year’s Great American Beer Festival, we wandered around to get some quick insight from a few of these individuals.

Expansion is often the goal for any brewery, which Grand Canyon Brewing Co. is currently in the midst of, producing just under 10,000 barrels a year now with a goal to quadruple that by 2020 with its new 40-bbl brewhouse. But in chatting with Director of Sales Alexander Phillips, we were reminded, once again, that Biggie was right about what causes mo’ problems.

“Money,” he easily noted as their biggest challenges. “A big expansion … constantly costs more money, equipment, things, time we didn’t have. So it becomes a pinch.”

But we think that investment in time and money is going to pay off as the Arizona craft beer scene is exploding. Watch above as Phillips reports on what’s big in his state’s beer scene right now.
