The 2024 top 50 US craft breweries by sales volume

April 16, 2025Keith Gribbins

Top 50 craft breweries in America in 2024

The 2024 top 50 craft breweries list is out — and Fat Head’s cracked it

The Brewers Association has released its annual rankings of the top 50 U.S. craft brewing companies by beer sales volume. The 2024 list reflects a changing landscape, where resilience, regional power, and operational excellence matter more than sheer volume growth. Amid a tough year for craft beer, 41 of the top 50 overall U.S. brewing companies still qualified as independent craft brewers. That includes some long-time fixtures — and a few new faces.

Welcome to the big show, Fat Head’s

Let’s start with our favorite headline: Fat Head’s Brewery in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, made the list for the first time, landing at No. 48. Known for hop-forward classics like Head Hunter IPA (my favorite beer in the world), Fat Head’s has long been a fan favorite and a regional heavyweight in the Great Lakes. It’s good to see the numbers finally catch up to the reputation. Congrats.

What changed since last year?

Eight new breweries joined the list in 2024. Several notable brands dropped off, while others rose in the ranks. Here are a few takeaways:

  • Athletic Brewing climbed to No. 8. That’s the highest-ever finish for a non-alcoholic craft brewery.
  • Great Lakes Brewing Company jumped into the top 20 at No. 18. Go northeast Ohio!
  • Creature Comforts and Fiddlehead Brewing made strong appearances, reflecting regional strength and smart growth strategies.
  • BrewDog USA, Abita, and Pizza Port continued to hold ground, proving that diverse business models and loyal fanbases still drive volume.

Some names from 2023’s top 50 — like Kings & Convicts and IndieBrew — are gone from this year’s rankings. That’s not necessarily a sign of struggle, but it does reflect the continued churn in distribution.
