North Coast Brewing adds three new fermenting tanks

June 19, 2013Chris Crowell

North Coast Brewing
North Coast Brewing is beefing up production by 40 percent this year thanks to three stainless steel behemoths from Paul Mueller Co.

According to the North Coast Brewing Co. blog, the Fort Bragg, Calif., brewer added three brand new stainless steel fermenting tanks from the Paul Mueller Co. into the southwest side of the brewery.

The tanks weighed in at 22,000 lbs and were lowered in through three 12-ft diameter holes in the roof. The existing 8 in. concrete floor was excavated and replaced by a 4-ft thick concrete base laced with rebar and topped with steel anchor bolts to hold the fermenters in place. Each tank holds 16,275 gallons.

The North Coast Brewing team projects that these additional tanks will boost production 40 percent from 2012 and expects to add about a dozen additional people as a result.

The tanks were manufactured by the  in Springfield, Mo., and transported 2,100 miles to Fort Bragg, Calif., in three Mueller flatbed trucks.
