Two Brothers Brewing Co. expands with equipment from Paul Mueller Co., GEA Westfalia

November 21, 2013Jason Morgan

Two Brothers Brewing Co. is expanding its brewery with four new 200 barrel (bbl) fermenters from the Paul Mueller Co. before the end of 2013. In addition to the new fermenters, the installation of a new centrifuge is planned for the beginning of 2014.

Two Brothers Brewing ExpandsTwo Brothers has used Paul Mueller Co. in the past, creating six of the fermenters currently in use and the bright tank. The brewery will gain 800 bbls of fermentation space with the addition of these new tanks, which will increase their cellar space 30 percent.

GEA Westfalia of Germany is constructing the new centrifuge for Two Brothers Brewing Co.

“There are almost too many improvements to list about this new machine,” explained Jeremy Bogan, head brewer for Two Brothers. “The centrifuge was developed specifically for the beverage industry. Alaskan Brewing has the same machine, which they’ve been using for about eight months. And New Glarus has a similar machine, but it is belt-driven. We’ve been looking forward to this piece of equipment for some time.”

One of the key enhancements of this centrifuge will be the ability to run about two times faster than the current machine. The brewery will have better results in both clarity and dissolved oxygen pick up. Also, the centrifuge will have a direct drive, making it much more energy efficient.

Two Brothers Brewing Co. is a family-owned and -operated craft brewery in the Western suburbs of Chicago.
