Your next package-hall purchase: Standard-Knapp Model 199 continuous-motion case sealer

February 29, 2016Keith Gribbins

199 Standard KnappA few questions first. What do you want in a case sealer? How important is speed, changeovers and footprint? Pretty important, nods Standard-Knapp agreeably. Standard-Knapp is a worldwide leader in the manufacture of innovative packaging machinery, and the company now has a sleek new continuous-motion case sealer — the Model 199 — which is ideal for high-speed sealing of primed flap and re-shipper cases (RSC). The 199 offers speeds of 50 to 75 cases per minute and features quick, complete changeover in less than two minutes. Honestly, it might just be the case sealer you’re looking for (no need to even use a Jedi hand wave).

Grab a beer and listen to the rest of this: This unassumingly named Model 199 has a high-efficiency, inline design that allows for high speed and consistent sealing of all incoming cases, according to Standard-Knapp. Also, the Model 199 has a small-footprint layout, which means it can be close-coupled to a case packer discharge or installed as a stand-alone machine. What more do you want? A top glue system?

You got it.

Using a multi-gun, hot melt glue system or optional tape dispensing unit, the Model 199 sealer folds the top flaps into place then seals them firmly and quickly. An on-demand, servo-controlled flap tucker ensures precise flap control at high speeds and a pneumatically controlled flap tucker is available for slower speeds (nice option). Electrically controlled, pneumatically actuated glue guns are aimed at giving a precise glue application pattern. The Model 199’s low-cavity glue guns provide reliable gluing and virtually no-drip operation.

What’s it made of?

The rust-proof, stainless steel frame ensures long operational life. A durable, well-tested compression section uses a friction belt and an adjustable, roller-based compression section to easily handle lightweight and heavy cases with ease, eliminating the need for side belts.

How do you operate it?

From the user-friendly HMI touch-screen control panel, to limited maintenance, to a push-button glue pattern change, the Model 199 has been designed for ease of use.

How do you do a changeover?

Fast, easy changeover is a hallmark of the Model 199 design. One operator can complete changeover in less than two minutes, with no tools or change parts needed. Each changeover point is numbered for quick identification and has a large, easy-read scale and red-marked indicator for reliable setups. All changeover settings are documented on a chart provided with the 199 Sealer.
