Changes coming to CBB (and your inbox) this week

March 3, 2020Chris Crowell

CBB enews

Craft Brewing Business has been your neighborhood hub of craft beer business insights since *checks again* 2013. Sheesh. In that time we’ve covered an exponential boom of new breweries, a Big Beer acquisition bonanza, the rise of canning, the growth of taproom sales, the impending doom of Keurig-style kitchen appliance brewing, the impending doom of legal weed, the impending doom of hard seltzers and several other dooms I’m surely forgetting.

And through it all, we’ve barely changed.

Sure, we’ve done some stuff. We hosted some webinars. We won a prestigious b2b publishing honor. We redesigned our website once. Some of us had kids. But we’ve kept the same once-a-week e-newsletter the entire time. The 12-pack! I’m sure you’ve deleted it a few hundred times over the years. Well, you better stretch those deletin’ muscles because we are finally ready to change things up.

Change 1: Goodbye 12-pack

We are ditching the 12-pack format. It was a cute tie-in to the beer industry (and you know we love our puns) but unlike a 12-pack of beer, we don’t really have control of what fills that 12 pack. Sometimes, more than 12 things happen. Sometimes, fewer do (and the madness that ensues when scrounging around for a 12th news item I wish upon no one.)

We workshopped some other, lighter, flexible beer puns for this new concept — The Session! The Mixed Six! What’s on Tap? — until we realized this was a pointless exercise. We are Craft Brewing Business, damn it, so let’s just make it the freaking Craft Brewing Business newsletter. Done.

Change 2: Sending twice a week!

A mandatory story count in each newsletter didn’t make sense, and neither does just sending one email a week. Not everyone has time or memory to go directly to the site every day. Tweets and Facebook links come and go faster than craft beer doom stories. In 2020, as a website without a printed publication, we’re doing our readers a disservice only appearing once a week. It just makes sense to increase our frequency, especially after freeing ourselves from the shackles of the 12-pack.

Change 3: Sexiness.

The new design is much sexier. Photos! Easy to scroll through and read! Symmetry! It looks better in every way.

I quit reading and scrolled to here, so sum this up for me:

  1. You will no longer get a CBB 12-pack email on Wednesdays.
  2. In its place, you will be getting a new-look, more easily scrollable Craft Brewing Business email on Tuesdays and Thursdays, filled with whatever happened (or whatever we wanted to send) since the last headline roundup we sent.
  3. Sexiness.

That’s it. Hope you enjoy the new routine as much as we do, and as always, thanks for reading. We won’t stop unless you stop.
