Big news for Colorado craft beer lovers: Goat Patch Brewing Co. is acquiring Pikes Peak Brewing Co., a well-loved Monument brewery with a 13-year legacy. This acquisition signals a new era for Goat Patch, which feels primed for growth.
A good match
The transition is fueled by shared values between the two brands. Chris and Judi Wright, founders of Pikes Peak, are retiring from brewing, and Goat Patch sees an opportunity to continue the legacy. Working with Small Batch Standard, a consulting firm, Goat Patch aims for a smooth takeover. While Goat Patch currently operates at a 3,000-bbl capacity, Pikes Peak’s 10,000-bbl production facility in Monument opens up massive growth potential. The Monument taproom will continue under the Pikes Peak name, honoring the brewery’s history and the community it’s built. From the press release:
“It has been an honor to serve our Monument neighbors and the Colorado Craft Beer Community,” said Chris Wright, founder of Pikes Peak Brewing Company, “The bonds we’ve formed over the past 13+ years have meant the world to me and our entire staff. I am excited to watch the future of Pikes Peak Brewing with the continued support from Monument and the Colorado Craft Beer consumer.”
“Chris and Judi have created something truly special, and we’re excited to build on their work while unlocking new opportunities for both brands,” said Justin Grant, co-owner of Goat Patch Brewing Company. “Our goal is to merge the strengths of both breweries, ensuring that the spirit of Pikes Peak Brewing Company remains a cornerstone of the Monument community while expanding what both brands can accomplish together.”
New Goat Patch location coming in 2025
Goat Patch Brewing isn’t stopping there. The brewery is opening a second taproom in Northgate, Colorado Springs, in spring 2025. The new spot will feature 16 taps, shareable bites, and the lively, community-oriented atmosphere that fans know and love. The new location is just one part of Goat Patch’s ambitious expansion.
Music and Beer: A winning combo
We gotta mention the musical connection. Goat Patch Brewing has long embraced the connection between craft beer and music. As the exclusive beer sponsor for the MeadowGrass Music Festival, they brewery supported local and national acts in Colorado Springs. The partnership was solidified through events like Bleating Heart Night, where Goat Patch raised funds for the Rocky Mountain Highway Music Collaborative. This isn’t a one-off; Goat Patch regularly hosts music nights at its taproom, integrating live music into its brand identity. Their Bleating Heart Night every Tuesday donates proceeds to local nonprofits, proving that beer and philanthropy are a perfect match.
The history of Goat Patch Brewing
Founded in 2017 by a group of friends passionate about beer, Goat Patch Brewing quickly became a Colorado Springs staple. Their balanced brews and community-driven initiatives have earned them accolades, including GABF and World Beer Cup medals. The name “Goat Patch” even pays tribute to co-owner and head brewer Darren Baze’s signature facial hair.
The legacy of Pikes Peak Brewing
Pikes Peak Brewing, a cornerstone of the Monument community, launched in 2011. What began as a small 10-bbbl brewery has grown into a vibrant hub with an expansive beer garden and a welcoming vibe. In 2020, they opened the Lager House in downtown Colorado Springs, specializing in lagers brewed on-site. Pikes Peak is known for its strong community ties and classic, high-quality beers. Their mission: brew for their neighbors, not just for notoriety. This ethos aligns perfectly with Goat Patch’s vision, making the acquisition a natural fit. From the press release:
“This acquisition isn’t just about increasing our capacity — it’s about continuing a story that has meant so much to the Craft Beer community in southern Colorado for over a decade,” said Cate Baze, co-owner of Goat Patch Brewing Company. “We see this as a baton being passed, and we’re excited to carry it forward with the same passion and dedication that PPBC has always been known for.”
Industry trends: Recent craft acquisitions
Goat Patch’s expansion comes amid a constant stream of notable brewery acquisitions. In Nashville, Jackalope Brewing was acquired by Tacoma and Hoyt LLC, a Tennessee investment firm. Founders Bailey Spaulding and Steve Wright remain involved, with plans to grow Jackalope’s regional presence.
FX Matt Brewery, another big craft player, acquired Ohza, an RTD mimosa and sangria brand. This move follows FX Matt’s acquisition of ‘Merican Mule and Flying Dog Brewery, strengthening their hold on the ready-to-drink market. With Ohza under their wing, FX Matt’s Right Coast Spirits division now offers both spirits-based and wine-based cocktails.
Meanwhile, Chobani founder Hamdi Ulukaya made waves by acquiring Anchor Brewing Co., one of America’s oldest craft breweries. Ulukaya, known for his philanthropic work, brings a socially responsible mindset to Anchor, which has faced financial struggles in recent years. Under his leadership, the future looks promising for this historic San Francisco brewery. That’s just a few of the more recent ones.
Hopefully a bright future for Goat Patch and Pikes Peak
As Goat Patch Brewing steps into its next chapter with Pikes Peak Brewing, the future is full of possibilities. More beer, more music and more ways to support the community await. Craft beer fans, keep your eyes on Goat Patch as they continue to make waves — and great brews — in Colorado.

I can’t remember if you did a post on the Lord Hobo/Lone Pine transaction. Seems to be a lot of this going on right now.
