Watch: How Bell’s Brewery’s bio-energy building (The Cube) turns brewery wastewater into electricity

June 24, 2020Keith Gribbins

Meet Megan Kaiser in the video above, environmental engineer at Bell’s Brewery. She’s going to talk us through one of Bell’s coolest process innovations — the bio-energy building called The Cube — which helps process Bell’s wastewater and create energy.

All the water that doesn’t go into Bell’s beer goes back to Kalamazoo, Mich.’s wastewater facility for treatment. To help cut down on the energy it takes to process this large amount of wastewater, Bell’s built its own wastewater processing system call The Cube. The Cube is a bio-energy building that converts about 75 percent of the residual protean, sugars and alcohol from brewing wastewater into renewable energy before sending that wastewater to the City of Kalamazoo.

To learn how that awesome process works, watch the video above. To learn more about brewery wastewater processes in general, here are some great follow up articles from the CBB archives.
