AlaBev announces second bi-annual Masters of the Brewniverse competition

January 25, 2016Jason Morgan

You have the power! … to compete in Alabama craft distributor AlaBev’s second bi-annual Masters of the Brewniverse competition. The competition will provide its grand-prize winner the opportunity to brew a limited edition, specialty beer with Straight to Ale Brewing that will be released to the public by AlaBev. A portion of the proceeds will benefit a charity of Straight to Ale’s choosing, to be announced at a later date.

AlaBev Masters of the Brewniverse competition

AlaBev hosted the first competition in the series in October 2015 and selected homebrewer James Glass of Warrior, Ala., to brew his winning beer, Black Saturday, with Avondale Brewing Co. The brew was available for a limited time in draft and bombers in Birmingham and Huntsville. A portion of the proceeds benefited the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.

“Over the last few years, Alabama has become a mecca for craft brewing,” stated Harry Kampakis, president of AlaBev. “We started the Masters of the Brewniverse series last year to great success with Black Saturday. AlaBev looks forward to continuing to help highlight our state’s breweries and cultivate the homebrewing community. This is the first series of its kind, and we are excited to discover what new homebrew we find next.”

Registration for the Masters of the Brewniverse competition is open from now until Feb. 19, 2016. Following registration, homebrewers must submit their brews to be judged by April 8, 2016.

For each brew a homebrewer wishes to enter, an entry form must be completed and two bottles of brew must be provided. There is no limit to the number of entries a homebrewer can submit, but there are style parameters. Entries should be Amber, Blonde, Double IPA, Fruit, Hefeweizen, IPA, Kolsch, Pale Ale, Pilsner, Singles, Wheat, and/or Whites. A loose interpretation of style can be taken. More detailed information is available on the registration form, which you can view by clicking here. Registration forms are also available at Wish You Were Beer, Straight to Ale Brewing, online at AlaBev.com and on AlaBev social media pages.

Cash participation prizes and the homebrew competition winner will be announced at AlaBev’s upcoming festival at the Huntsville Brewing District. The homebrew competition winner will be presented with the grand prize, including the opportunity to brew a limited-edition beer with Straight to Ale Brewing and an SS Brewtech 14 Gallon Chronical Conical Fermenter.
