Allagash Brewing is moving to a larger tasting room in 2024, growing ops at current facility

One of the steadiest craft breweries in the industry is jumping into the expansion-by-location trend. Allagash Brewing Co. is purchasing 7-plus acres of land in Scarborough, Maine, to develop and build a new custom-designed tasting room slated to open in 2024. The future space will be located within The Downs, Southern Maine’s new mixed-use, live-work-play community, located right off I-95—a 15-minute drive from the brewery.

“Portland has been and will always be our home. It’s where we brew all of the beer that made us what we are today, where we employ a team of over 140 people, and that’s not changing,” said Rob Tod, Founder of Allagash. “Our core goal at Allagash has been to give people new experiences and create community through beer, and this future space in Scarborough will achieve that and so much more.”

Allagash will not be moving any of their brewing or packaging operations away from the brewery in Portland. The current tasting room area on campus will remain open until the space at The Downs is complete in 2024. The expanded tasting room will comfortably accommodate more people and enable Allagash to dedicate more of their current space on Industrial Way to brewing beer.

“Our expanded presence at The Downs is a continuation of our measured and sustainable growth, and directly in line with our B Corp values dedicated to serving our community and our employees,” added Tod. “This is a great opportunity to continue to evolve with new ideas and initiatives in a way that is uniquely us.”

Allagash will be an anchor hospitality tenant of The Downs, which features residential, commercial and recreational components which inspired the tagline ‘A Community Trifecta’. The Downs property will help to preserve 200 acres of greenspace and will create 10 miles of recreational trails that connect the entire development area.

“We are very proud to welcome Allagash to Scarborough,” said Managing Partner Peter Michaud. “Allagash’s presence will solidify The Downs as one of the best in Maine to live, work, and play,” Michaud added.
