Boston Beer acquires Coney Island brand from Shmaltz

August 27, 2013Chris Crowell

Boston Beer buys Coney Island brandAccording to several reports from Street Insider and Seeking Alpha, Alchemy & Science, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boston Beer Co., acquired all of the rights to the Coney Island brand from Shmaltz Brewing Co.

The terms of the deal include a two-year agreement that will ease the transition. The agreement states that Shmaltz will still produce and sell some of the beer to be sold under the Coney Island brand name within those two years, and Shmaltz founder Jeremy Cowan will advise Boston Beer on matters related to the brand as well.

Boston Beer earnings and depletions were up in the second quarter. And at least one analyst is high on the company’s stock because of its continued innovation.
