Cincinnati craft brewers plan event to punch each other in the head

June 23, 2016Chris Crowell

You know what the craft beer industry could use more of? Violence. But maybe that’s just us rugged Ohioans as Fifty West Brewing Co. will be putting on a boxing event that features 10 representatives from other Cincinnati breweries going head-to-head in an all night showdown under the lights at its new Production Works Facility on July 9, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. The heavily anticipated event, Punch Out, will be a collaborative effort of local breweries coming together for a full night of entertainment.

Punch Out Reach Ad Half Page

For the past month, 10 representatives from local breweries all around Cincinnati have been training to fight for their 1 v 1 boxing match. There will be five matches throughout the night, with each one going three rounds. The boxing ring will sit atop the sand and bleachers will line three sides; there will not be a bad seat in the house. Punch out will be complete with a DJ, an announcer, referees, judges and, of course, delicious beer.

The event is being put on in celebration of the bottle release of Fifty West’s Punch You in the EyePA, and to celebrate the thriving local brewery scene. The now infamous Punch You in the EyePA is the first ever continuously packaged beer in the brewery’s history, and it has come with much anticipation from both Fifty West and consumers alike.

“This beer means a lot to me — not only do I think the dank and tropical flavors are delicious — but also because it reminds me what we do for a living. We make great beer. For our customers, friends and family to be able to take it home now, in a four pack, man that’s the ticket,” said Brewmaster Blake Horsburgh.

Founding partner and Director of Operations, Bobby Slattery, added that this was a perfect event for the bottle release because, “Cincinnati’s heritage used to be about boxing and brewing, and we are trying bring back that rich history. This is bigger than just our brewery; it’s about bringing together our city in a fun and exciting way.”

In addition to five matches featuring 10 fighters from eight local breweries, attendants can also expect a fun-filled beer festival with more than 50 local brews on tap from all your favorite Cincinnati-based breweries, each with their unique flavor and history behind them. Talk to a representative of the craft brews while watching amateur boxing at this event and fully immerse yourself in the summer of fun in Cincinnati.

Presale tickets are now available online and at both Fifty West locations for $15 a piece and will be available the day of for $20.00 a piece.
