Craft Beer Marketing Idea of the Week: Cincy’s Fifty West Brewing offers marathon training to get lazy boozers in shape

January 2, 2019Keith Gribbins

beer award jogger running cbb cropIt’s a new year, and you need some serious wellness-focused resolutions. Just look at yourself. Luckily, Fifty West Brewing Co. is here to help. The Cincinnati-based brewery recently announced what it thinks is the first ever 17-week marathon and half marathon training program hosted at a brewery. It starts on January 8. Go sign up.

Regular training will occur every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. This unique opportunity to train with a brewery in conjunction with its experienced partners at JackRabbit will cost $115 and feature training coaches, an individualized training program to help attain participants’ personal goals, 10+ special post-run happy hours on Tuesdays which will take place in different locations around the city loaded with a plethora of perks and tips.

From the moment it opened its doors, Fifty West Brewing has made it a point to emphasize the importance of being physically active right along with crafting world-class brews and dishes produced within its walls. The training groups being created and run through Fifty West will continue this legacy while nurturing another passion of Fifty West — creating community. There will be pillars of support for participants every step of the way, from the weekly emails and a Facebook page to keep participants up to date with events, all the way to the Fifty West cheering zone that will motivate runners during the Flying Pig course itself.

A marathon runner himself, Bobby Slattery, owner of Fifty West Brewing, stated: “For us, the thing we are most excited about is providing people with the opportunity to learn that they can run a marathon, they just don’t know it yet. We want participants to feel invited into the community by providing them with a place to start in a non-intimidating setting.”

It has been years in the making that Fifty West Brewing has provided patrons with an environment that encourages both an active lifestyle as well as community. The training program for the Flying Pig is the latest in a string of successful programs run through the brewery. From sand volleyball to kayaking to cycling to runners clubs, this is a company that places value on the active lifestyle and community created by its patrons.

The 17-week training program will set members up for success and provide each runner with a sense of accomplishment every step of the way. The personalized training program provided by professional coaches will set up workout guides for each day so that participants can plan appropriately. Whether it’s a New Year’s Resolution that is driving a runner or a personal desire to succeed, this program will offer members an experience that has never been done before with such passion and attention to detail.
