Craft Beer Channel tells craft breweries to ‘stick to your guns,’ dont sell out to Big Beer

January 12, 2016Keith Gribbins

We love everything craft beer represents. Good beer for starters, but localized beer, owned by small, entrepreneurial businesses that support their community, fight for the environment and sustainability and connect with customers on a personal level. Jonny from YouTube’s excellent Craft Beer Channel also loves craft beer. He loves it so much, he hates that some of you out there are selling out to global macro beer rollups (not cool). It’s a sore subject for sure. Listen to Jonny’s take above. He took time out of his Christmas day to post his rant, and he makes some good points. Let us know your opinions in the comments below.

We doubt big beer would agree to our selling price, but if they do, it’s a done deal!

Any business has to have an exit strategy and really there are two options. Sell your business and in the craft beer market, sell to a bigger brewery or do I dare say private equity or pass the business down to a family member. That entrepreneur might not have kids or the kids don’t have the inclination and or passion to take the business forward. Beer is just business in the end and while it’s a great product and something I enjoy, the breweries themselves will come and go but fortunately there is plenty of growth and opportunity for new breweries to fill the void that other breweries left behind.
