As the brewing market grows and diversifies, filtering air and liquid for your brewing process is essential. Breweries of all sizes, from craft to macro-breweries, are expanding their offerings to produce new flavors for consumers.

Donaldson recently recorded a webinar about filter elements and how they can improve the brewing process – everything from equipment sterilization to mashing to final packaging. Trap filtration solutions, which can be used after a centrifuge, DE filter, or even to protect a cross flow system, were also discussed.

Brewery filtration involves:

  • Water filtration to remove any microorganisms that could cause spoilage during beer processing. Sterile water is used to clean bottles and cans before packaging and to help preserve pipes, valves and tank walls in filtration systems.
  • Steam is filtered before sterilizing kegs, yeast propagation tanks, and other equipment. It should also be filtered for any indirect applications, such as heating in the mash and wort kettles, and to protect equipment from damage.
  • Gas and compressed air are sterilized for wort aeration and yeast propagation.
  • Beer is filtered for clarification and desired turbidity. It’s also used for cold stabilization, in place of classic thermal treatment systems.

Head here to listen to the “Emerging Trends and Equipment for Breweries” webinar presented by Julia MacLean (U.S.) and Julian Larisch (EMEA), brewery business development specialists for Donaldson, and Roberto Melchiorri, business development manager of skid solutions for Donaldson.
