Mitten Brewing Co. set to celebrate two years

The Mitten Brewing Co. is a vintage baseball- and firehouse-themed brewery in the historic Engine House No. 9 on Leonard Street in Grand Rapids, Mich.

To cap off two years of continued growth and neighborhood development, the Mitten Brewing Co. will host an all-day celebration on Saturday, Nov. 15. The brewery, located in Engine House No. 9 at 527 Leonard Street NW, opened on Nov. 16, 2012, and has seen an incredible second year. Since its first anniversary, The Mitten saw its taproom double in size, including a second floor and patio and within a few weeks, its production facility will come on line, more than doubling the breweries capacity. The patio project was awarded the “Best Exterior Renovation” at the Neighborhood Business Awards last week.

To celebrate the first two years, owners Andrus and Max Trierweiler are inviting the city to Engine House No. 9 to enjoy pizza, beer, music and friends. Brewers Jason Warnes, Wob Wanhatalo and Alex Atkin have stored away more than 15 beers that will be tapped throughout the day. Commemorative glasses will be available, with prize giveaways throughout the afternoon.

“We can’t thank our customers enough and encourage them to come celebrate with us,” Trierweiler said. “This year our business is another year more mature and we’re looking to put on an even better party.”

The event will be used as a springboard into the holiday season and The Mitten’s best year yet. Also in the coming months, The Mitten will see the first new major Leonard Street developments — Long Road Distillery and Two Scotts Barbecue — open in the coming months.

“We’re in a better position than ever,” Andrus said. “Once the production facility is open, we’ll finally be able to keep the taproom full of beer and begin to get our brand out on the market. We’re looking forward to 2015 and the great things it has in store.”
