New Belgium Brewing honored as ‘Best For the Environment’

April 29, 2015Jason Morgan

Best for the Environment New Belgium B Corp

B Lab has named New Belgium Brewing to its fourth annual ‘B Corp Best for the Environment’ list for creating the most positive overall environmental impact. The B Corp ‘Best for the Environment’ list honors hundreds of businesses that earned an environmental impact score in the top 10 percent of all Certified B Corporations on the B Impact Assessment, a rigorous and comprehensive assessment of a company’s impact on its workers, community and the environment.

The B Corp ‘Best for the Environment’ list sets the gold standard for positive impact companies and demonstrates that any type of company can use business as a force for good. It is part of B Lab’s ‘Best for the World’ series.

“It is a great honor to once again receive a ‘Best for the World’ designation,” said Katie Wallace, assistant director of sustainability for New Belgium. “Environmental responsibility and advocacy is a core value, taken very seriously here at New Belgium. We know we are profitable not in spite of our social and environmental efforts, but because of them. Therefore, this work is crucial to our business’ longevity and helps to preserve a world we are proud to live in and pass on to future generations.”

The 2015 ‘Best for the World’ honorees represent nearly one-third of all B Corps, displaying a wide range of excellence in the community.

New Belgium became a Certified B Corporation in 2013. Shortly after joining, B Lab awarded the brewery with the ‘B Corp Best for the Workers’ award, a distinction that honors companies that create the most positive environment for their employees.

“Today’s honorees inspire all companies to compete not only to be best in the world, but best for the world. We hope many will take the first step by using the B Impact Assessment to measure and manage their impact with as much rigor as their profit,” said Jay Coen Gilbert, Co-Founder of B Lab, the nonprofit organization that certifies B Corporations and governs the independent third party standard used to generate the comparable assessment of corporate impact.

Each honored company is a Certified B Corporation. These companies use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems and have met rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. Today there are over 1,200 Certified B Corporations, across 121 industries and 38 countries, unified by one common goal: to redefine success in business. Any company can measure and manage social and environmental performance at bimpactassessment.net.
