New craft brewing appliance now on Kickstarter

March 22, 2016Chris Crowell

artbrew kick starterBrewing a quality beer on a kitchen counter, with no effort, isn’t exactly the romantic labor of love we normally picture when we think of craft beer. But remember that brewing is science, and science cares not about your emotions.

Science gets its jollies from experimentation and machinery, which is why the science side of the brewing spirit is interested in the new Artbrew on KickStarter, the latest foray into the suddenly growing world of craft-brewing appliances (we called the first one of these a magic box).

The Artbrew is a self-contained device that performs all the steps of brewing beer, enabling users to create a wide range of professional quality beer recipes with virtually no effort or knowledge of beer brewing technique. That could read as: ArtBrew has been sent from the future by SkyNet (recently acquired by Beer Voltron) to end commercial craft brewing by allowing simple bumpkins to just do everything themselves. We are not here to disprove that claim, but we are here to say that professional brewers could make this machine an ally, Judgement Day style.

Need to test how a new hop will work in one of your current recipes? Need to try various malt combinations? This is where your new pal ArtBrew can help because the brewing process will be small and consistent. You can even keep your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle. Artbrew can brew 6 liters of beer at a time and takes up the footprint of a small microwave.

“We created Artbrew for people who love craft beer and want to innovate with their own recipes,” said Shu Zhang. “But, at the same time, our mission was to make the brewing process as simple as possible. Artbrew brings it all together: amazing craft beer with a one-touch appliance.”

This beer machine comes with a price tag of $989 but will be available for pre-order at just $495. The crowdfunding campaign goes live on Kickstarter on March 29, 2016.
