January 17, 2018Pretty Much a Press Release

Sloop, Fishkill, Poughkeepsie — this press release has lots of fun words. Feel free to read it out loud. Here goes: The Hudson Valley’s Sloop Brewing Co. announced it will be expanding and relocating its brewery to the former IBM campus in East Fishkill. Originally founded in Dutchess County, Sloop’s new 26,000 square foot facility will allow them to greatly increase production, expand their footprint in the Hudson Valley, N.Y., with multiple tasting room locations and help revitalize the former East Fishkill plant.

“The new brewery will allow us to increase production and still focus on our beer with the same love and care as always,” said Justin Taylor, Sloop’s brewmaster and cofounder. “With our new 120-barrel tanks we can make enough beer to be in bars and stores throughout the Northeast — but we’ll still have the 30-barrel tanks, to keep making small-batch beer, hone our craft and try new things like we’ve always been proud to do.”

The new brewery is expected to be operational by May. This is the Elizaville, N.Y. facility.

Sloop Brewing will be one of the first tenants in the Dutchess County iPark project, which hopes to repurpose the former IBM plant as a mixed-use food, retail and hotel hub, projected to add up to 1,000 jobs to the local economy.

The new tasting room will feature local beer, foods from across New York State, event space and live music with room for over 300 people. Just minutes from I-84, it brings a Sloop tasting room closer to New York City while perfectly positioning them for production and shipping across the Northeast. The move has been greatly helped by a $565,000 Regional Economic Development Council Award from New York State.

“We’re excited to help spearhead the revitalization of the IBM campus,” said Adam Watson, president and cofounder of Sloop. “It’s a great location, a great building, and bringing this factory back to life is a great project to be a part of. We really appreciate the support and faith shown in us by the REDC, the Cuomo administration, and our state representatives.”

The new brewery is expected to be operational by May, with the new tasting room opening this summer. Their Elizaville location at Vosburgh Orchards will continue serving Sloop beers in Columbia County.

An announcement celebration will be held at Schatzi’s Poughkeepsie on Feb. 3 at 12 p.m., coinciding with the release of Sloop’s new Double Dry Hopped Green Islands IPA. The first 50 purchases of cans will receive a free T-shirt commemorating the move. Till then, enjoy some extra photos.
