Odyssey Beerwerks is hosting a fundraiser for local boy with Leukemia

August 1, 2019Chris Crowell

No one parties with a purpose like Arvada, Colo.’s Odyssey Beerwerks. In March, the brewery held a fundraiser for a little girl, Miley, who has childhood Leukemia. The brewery coordinated with Denver Chive and The Berry Colorado for this event, which included a silent auction, door prizes, and 10% of taproom beer sales as a donation to Miley’s family to help with medical expenses.

This Saturday, Odyssey Beerwerks is opening its doors again for Porter, a four-year-old with the same form of childhood leukemia.

“One of Porter’s moms, Jen, is an EMT in a local hospital’s emergency department and I had the privilege of working with her there for several years,” says Amanda Hendrix, taproom manager at Odyssey. “In healthcare, the focus is constantly on providing quality, efficient, and compassionate care, which is something that I witnessed from her whenever we worked together. What can often get overlooked while treating patients is the sense of community and family that is created by the people you work with. Jen was always a driving force in bringing people together – she’s always quick with a joke, a smile, or a “hey buddy!” when it is most needed.

“It’s obvious that Porter and his brother, Aden, have two amazing moms. It’s an honor to be able to give back to this family, these friends, in an Od way,” Hendrix says

Kudos to the team at Odyssey for dedicated days at the brewery to helping others in the community like this. Here are the full details from the company’s Facebook page:

Four-year-old Porter was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2017 and has been battling like a champ. He just hit the halfway point in his cancer treatment but needs your support to finish the 2nd half of the game!

To help offset Porter’s medical expenses, 10% of taproom beer sales all day on 8/3/19 will go to Porter’s Supporters, as well as proceeds from a Silent Auction from Noon-6pm. We’ll also have an archery booth from Archery Games Denver, Magic In The Taproom with Brandon from 3-5pm, and Yummys Food Truck! Plus, in celebration of National Watermelon Day we’re releasing Peace of Rind Watermelon Gose.

Additionally, Porter loves superheroes, so superhero costumes, t-shirts, etc. for this event are encouraged!
