Sam Calagione encourages your craft brewery to join the Brewers Association

July 25, 2016Keith Gribbins

Did you know Dogfish Head Brewery founder Sam Calagione didn’t know brewing was illegal in Delaware when he was preparing to open his famous brewpub in Rehoboth? In this video, Calagione recounts the big day he went to the brewpub to take down the old sign of the last failed restaurant when some passerby (upon asking what he planned for the new business) informed him it was illegal to brew commercially in the State of Delaware. Calagione had no idea.

It’s the kind of stuff you get to know when you’re an active member of the Brewers Association — a trade group that aims to promote and protect small and independent American brewers, their craft beers and their community of brewing enthusiasts. Today, Calagione is an active member and supporter of the BA, its great services, solid events and its famous definition of craft beer. The founder and president of Dogfish Head discusses the value of BA membership for his business and for all of America’s small and independent craft brewers in the video above. We can’t help but agree, as Craft Brewing Business has been a BA member since we were founded.
