Sierra Nevada adds industry veteran Danny Kahn to its brewery team

June 5, 2014Jason Morgan

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is pleased to announce the addition of Danny Kahn, a 27-year brewing industry veteran, to its talented team. As brewery technical director, Kahn will oversee brewing operations and quality at both the Chico, Calif., and Mills River, N.C., breweries, as well as research and development in Chico, working with current department heads, whose duties will remain the same. Sierra Nevada opening a second facility on the East Coast inspired its creation of the Brewery Technical Director position.

“I’m looking forward to expanding my brewing horizons and putting my experience with process improvement to work at a brewery that puts such a high value on quality.” – Danny Kahn, Sierra Nevada Brewing’s brewery technical director

“I’ve been looking for someone to help me shoulder some of the load on the technical side,” explained Sierra Nevada Founder Ken Grossman. “Danny will work with our plant manager, Al Spinelli, and other brewery managers on projects focused on quality, process optimization, and process improvement. Our new brewery added complexity to every facet of our company and I wanted someone dedicated to overseeing brewing who I could rely on to stay focused on our increasingly complex portfolio.”

Kahn spent 27 years at Anheuser-Busch, where he held various positions in brewing operations at several locations. He was most recently the Senior Brewmaster at the AB brewery in Cartersville, Ga. A long-time homebrewer, Kahn earned a degree in fermentation sciences from the University of California, Davis.

“With his appreciation for both the art and science of brewing and his appreciation for innovative beer styles, Danny will be a great asset to our team,” Grossman added.

“I have always been passionate about brewing,” said Kahn, “and I’ve admired Sierra Nevada since my days at Davis. I’m looking forward to expanding my brewing horizons and putting my experience with process improvement to work at a brewery that puts such a high value on quality.”
