Two things CBB enjoys: 1) In-depth market research; and 2) Really cool infographics. So, when we saw this interactive map of the Chicagoland area that detailed what beer styles are trending in which regions, we had to share it with all of you. Big thanks to Matt Zajechowski with Digital Third Coast Internet Marketing who collaborated with Lakeshore Beverage on the graphic below for Chicago’s craft beer week last week.
The team analyzed a year’s worth of sales data from thousands of bars, restaurants, liquor stores, grocery stores, and anywhere else that sells beer to determine the averages for consumption of each style of beer throughout the entire city of Chicago. Then, they compared the Chicago-wide averages to the percentage of one style of beer sold in one neighborhood. That revealed which style each neighborhood preferred. Be sure to click around and see what jumps out ar you.
You may not have the programming chops to devise something this awesome, but you can still conduct similar research in your own area, crunch the numbers, and see if any trends jump out at you. Maybe drinkers a couple counties over from you are really into porters and you haven’t developed a porter in awhile. Or maybe you have one but aren’t distributing over there. Anyway, data is cool.
