D9 Brewing to distribute its cool sours this summer via Mims

July 23, 2015Chris Crowell

Mims Distributing Co., a wholesale beverage distributor in North Carolina, and partner D9 Brewing Co., are broadening the brewery’s distribution area with the release of Viking Fraoch Scottish Sour and other great brews this summer. The Cornelius, N.C.-based craft microbrewery is a 10-barrel (bbl) production company specializing in spontaneous sours brewed in an ancient recipe, a technique unique to D9.

D9 BrewinIn June, D9 announced the launch of Viking Fraoch Scottish Sour, the first-ever bottling of one of the brewery’s Fanatical Ales. Viking Fraoch is the first Fanatical Ale in the Ancient Sour Series. To celebrate this milestone, D9 released the first batch as a limited, brewery-only release, with each bottle capped with the same crowns that were used as tokens during the production brewery grand opening. This will be the only batch that will feature these gold crowns to differentiate them as D9’s first bottles ever produced.

“We are excited to be a part of bringing D9 to the Triangle community,” said Chip Mims, CEO of Mims Distributing Co. “Andrew, John and Aaron brew outstanding beers that bring the community together, and Mims is enthusiastic to have been a part in bringing this North Carolina gem to the rest of the state. We look forward to bringing more of their innovative brews to hopheads in the area.”

The idea of the brewery began in 2009, when founders Andrew Durstewitz, John Ashcraft and Aaron Burton decided to start a brewery with the purpose of creating and sharing outstanding beer that united people. Today, D9 continues its mission of inspiring the community and promoting the art of craft beer, most recently with the opening of a new 10,000-square-foot facility, which invites guests to see, taste and enjoy the brewing process from start to finish. Moving to this larger facility has allowed D9 to expand brewing capacity, enabling the brewery to increase distribution throughout North Carolina.

“Expanding into Raleigh has always been a goal for D9 Brewing Company,” said Andrew Durstewitz, founder and CEO at D9 Brewing. “Working with Mims Distributing has helped us share our love of beer with as many people as we can in the Triangle, and Mims Distributing is the perfect partner to help us continue spreading Viking Fraoch and our other favorite brews throughout North Carolina.”
