DESTIHL Brewery sends beers into Pennsylvania

July 2, 2014Chris Crowell

Bloomington, Ill.-based DESTIHL Brewery plans to start distributing to Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania via Bella Vista Beer Distributors Inc. of Philadelphia.

Destihl Brewery
DESTIHL is currently expanding again by adding another row of tanks to grow fermentation capacity to over 16,000 barrels, and it is in the process of adding new bottling equipment.

In the near term, DESTIHL will be sending a ton of its beers in draft kegs and 12-ounce cans, including its award-winning Strawberry Blonde Ale (in four-packs), Hoperation Overload Double IPA (in four-packs) and Abbey’s Single (a Belgian-style Abbey Single Ale in six-packs), as well as draft kegs of Clarice Belgian Dark Strong Ale, Tenebrous Black RyePA, Black Angel Stout, VertexIPA, Altercation, Ambassador Belgian Double Pale Ale and Downstate Pale Ale. Pennsylvania will also immediately get its hands on beers from DESTIHL’s Wild Sour Series, including its award-winning Counter ClockWeisse (a Berliner-style Weisse) and Black Berliner Weisse.

“After being in talks with Bella Vista for several months, we are excited to team up and get started with a Pennsylvania distributor that is so perfectly suited for our diverse and unique portfolio of beers.  We will be a great fit with Bella Vista’s current lineup of great breweries and brands,” said DESTIHL Founder, Brewmaster and CEO Matt Potts.

DESTIHL opened its first gastrobrewpub in Normal, Ill., in November 2007 and added its second gastrobrewpub in downtown Champaign in April 2011, where the company focuses on both artisan food and beers. DESTIHL’s 20,000-square-foot production brewery in commenced operations in May 2013 and includes a 25-barrel brewhouse, several large fermenters having a capacity of 10,000 barrels (bbls) annually and 100,000 cubic feet of barrel-aging space.  The brewery is currently expanding again by adding another row of tanks to grow fermentation capacity to over 16,000 bbls, and it is in the process of adding bottling equipment for packaging its long-awaited Saint Dekkera Reserve Sour Ales.  The brewery currently distributes its beers in Wisconsin, Illinois, Arizona, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Louisiana, Ohio and now Pennsylvania, with launches planned for later this summer in Florida, Washington State and Oregon.
