Excel Bottling Co. Assistant Brewmaster Rod Burguiere was recruited last year from one of the nation’s largest microbreweries, California’s Stone Brewing Co., to lend his expertise to the company’s budding craft beer production.

Effective immediately, Excel Bottling Co. will begin distributing products in Missouri through the Missouri Beverage Co. The initial distribution will include Excel’s craft beer labels Shoal Creek Wheat, Excel Citra and Eastside IPA. Through Missouri Beverage, Excel Bottling products will reach St. Louis and St. Charles County. These beers will be available in 6-pack bottles and 1/6 barrel kegs.

“We are happy to be working with Missouri Beverage Co. to increase the reach of our products and introduce more craft beer to the region. We think this is a truly great line of craft beer,” said Excel’s 3rd generation owner Bill Meier.

Excel Bottling Co. was founded in 1936 by the Meier Family. In 2012, the company known for manufacturing and distributing soda also opened a brewery. The Shoal Creek Wheat is a true German Style hefeweizen unfiltered wheat beer. This beer is made with 70 percent wheat and 30 percent barley. The German Ale yeast gives a clove and banana flavor that is 4.5 percent ABV alcohol.

Also out for distribution is Excel Citra, a golden ale accented with natural lemon and orange flavorings. Both zests blend with the malty character making Excel Citra a lighter summer beer with a 4.5 percent ABV. Excel’s newest beer, Eastside IPA is a West Coast-style IPA. An amber beer with a caramel malt aroma, this 7 percent ABV brew has floral hops and a biscuit malt taste.

Missouri Beverage distributes wines, spirits and beer throughout the state of Missouri. Excel Bottling is one of two local craft beer breweries using Missouri Beverage to distribute their products in the state.
