Hopsy unveils craft beer kitchen appliance to enhance its draft beer delivery service

February 26, 2019Chris Crowell

Hopsy SUB Compact image

This is the first beer countertop appliance that makes sense to me. The concept comes via Hopsy, a direct-to-consumer draft beer service. To further support its mission to deliver fresh craft beer straight to people’s homes, the company unveiled the SUB Compact.

The appliance, which sits on a kitchen countertop, was invented to work with Hopsy’s 2-liter mini-kegs. Each keg contains 67-oz of beer (approximately six servings). It chills beer to 35.6-degrees Fahrenheit, and once tapped keeps it fresh for two weeks.

How it works

The SUB Compact is intuitive and easy to use. Users simply insert the mini-keg into the SUB Compact, slip the tube through the tap, close the door of the SUB Compact and pull the handle to enjoy quality draft beer. No CO2 cartridge or specific maintenance is required. The SUB Compact includes its own refrigeration system and keeps beer fresh and always ready to drink. Hopsy’s mini-kegs are recyclable.

Design

Not only does the SUB Compact’s high-end design take up minimal counter space, it has also been perfected to apply just the right amount of pressure to ensure the best quality taste and experience. The SUB Compact’s horizontal design increases the contact area between the cooling chamber and the mini-keg, quickly chilling your beer. The unique technology of the mini-keg packaging prevents any contact of the beer with the air. Heat produced by the SUB Compact is released in order to keep your mini-keg perfectly chilled. The SUB Compact is equipped with an electronic temperature sensor to ensure an ideal service temperature. It also comes with a two-year warranty.

Selection and shipping

Right now, Hopsy delivers and rotates hundreds of beers from nearly 30 different brands — Lagunitas, Yuengling, Hermitage, Gordon Biersch, BrewSA, Broken Bow, Empirical, Lion Brewery and Narragansett. Hopsy works directly with top brewers to source the best beers and also give consumers access to their limited releases, on tap, at home. By partnering directly with the brewmasters, Hopsy guarantees the highest level of freshness. Hopsy’s curated selection adds new beers every month.

Originally available only in the San Francisco Bay Area, Hopsy is now available in California, New York, New Jersey and Illinois, as well as in limited test release in other states.

“We do not have concerns about shipping and handling, as the SUB Compact and the mini-kegs are shipped through trusted local shipping partners,” Hopsy CEO and founder Sebastien Tron told us. “With Hopsy, beer drinkers order their favorite brews directly from us online and we deliver them to their door at a convenient time.”

The Hopsy Beer Club

With various options and no long-term commitment, Hopsy Beer Club members can receive mini-kegs every four to six weeks and save up to 30 percent. Hopsy sends Club members an email with its recommendations for their shipment and then customers can keep those choices or swap them with any beers they’d prefer. Club members can also choose how often they want new shipments and when they want them delivered.

The Tab

For a limited time, the SUB Compact is available for pre-order for $149.99, a 50 percent savings. Individual mini-kegs can then be purchased for as little as $14.99.

I have something cool too. I have a refrigerator and I buy cans of beer from a store. Then I put the cans of beer in the refrigerator.
