Schmalz Inc. grows robot palletizing vacuum business in North Carolina

June 17, 2015Chris Crowell

Schmalz Inc. will be breaking ground at its new 6 acre site with Managing Director of J. Schmalz GmbH, Wolfgang Schmalz, Dr. Volker Schmitz, President of Schmalz Inc., the Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall and other government officials.

“We are very excited about this big important step for our company. This will be one of the largest company-owned facilities outside of Germany,” said Wolfgang Schmalz, managing director and co-owner of J. Schmalz GmbH.

We were first introduced into the suction, back-end-brewing powers of Shmalz at the 2013 Craft Brewers Conference. Schmalz is a leader in the field of industrial automation as it pertains to vacuum automation, robotic palletizing vacuum grippers, material handling vacuum lift assist devices and CNC machine vacuum clamping. The company is known for its innovative quality products, which give its customers decisive productivity improvements in their manufacturing processes, as well as its commitment to the environment and its employees.

“Schmalz Inc. has been growing steadily since it was founded here in Raleigh 16 years ago. In order to keep up with demand, the number of employees has more than doubled in just the last few years. We are committed to the Triangle Area and the employees here that have helped to build this business,” explained Volker Schmitz, president of Schmalz Inc. Schmalz has quickly outgrown its current 20,000-square-foot facility that was purchased in 2009 close to the new site. “This additional investment of about $7 million in Phase I will ensure that Schmalz Inc. has enough space in order to continue to grow at its current pace. A larger Phase II expansion is not that far away.”

The new facility will provide more room for testing and assembly of automation systems, along with a dedicated customer show room, training rooms and increased office space.
