Smuttynose Brewing starts shipping to Indiana

June 6, 2013Chris Crowell

Smuttynose Brewing Co. announced a new distribution agreement with Cavalier Distributing-Indiana, to bring the New Hampshire craft brewer’s beers to the Hoosier State. Though details, including launch events, have yet to be finalized, the first shipments should be in stores by the end of June. All of Smuttynose’s offerings will be available around Indiana including limited release Big Beers and experimental Short Batch releases.

Smuttynose hit capacity and was unable to move beyond its 21 state footprint – but a new facility scheduled to open this year has changed the game and allowed the team to sign this deal with Cavalier for distribution into Indiana.

“We haven’t been able to add new markets as we’ve reached capacity in our original and current home,” said Peter Egelston, founder and president of Smuttynose. “With our new, state-of-the-art brewery set to open later this fall, we felt like Indiana would be a great fit.”

Cavalier is Indiana’s only statewide, independent craft beer distributor, boasting a strong presence in each of the state’s craft beer markets. The partnership with Cavalier brings Smuttynose’s distribution footprint to 22 contiguous states and Washington DC. In 2012, the brewery sold nearly 41,000 bblsof beer. In August of 2012, Smuttynose officially broke ground on its new production facility at the 14-acre Towle Farm in Hampton, N.H., which will be
operational by the end of 2013.

“We don’t expect to take the state by storm on day one,” said Kevin Love, Smutty’s vice president of sales and marketing. “But we believe there is plenty of room to grow our brand with Cavalier and we’re wicked excited to do so.”

Independently owned since its opening in 1994, Smuttynose brews over 25 different styles of beer for distribution in 22 different states, including their best-selling Finestkind IPA and international award-winners Robust Porter and Wheat Wine Ale.
