Long Trail Brewing Co. has already played with CBD-infused beer via its Medicator brand (with big flavor coming from terpene compounds and CBD oils extracted from the hemp plants grown at Luce Farm in Stockbridge, Vt.). The buzz killers at the U.S. Treasury Department’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau were not big fans.
In April, Long Trail Brewing went in another direction and released its first batch of non-alcoholic CBD seltzers, an idea that’s been developing for more than a year, according to its blog. In the video above, Robbie Leeds, Long Trail beer production manager, and Brandon Mayes, director of quality assurance, discuss the CBD seltzer concept. We learn cool things like how the Long Trail crew used CBD isolate with special emulsifiers to make it water-soluble friendly. The seltzer brand definitely looks like an interesting alternative beverage for the Bridgewater Corners-based beer pioneer.
There’s Blueberry Melon CBD Seltzer and Raspberry Lime flavor, both of which includes 20 mg of CBD per 12-oz can (a fact that’s been verified by a third-party). These non-alcoholic alternatives are headed to Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island and Vermont to start.
