I barf on this Monday morning. I’m cold, unmotivated and I just spilled tomato juice on my favorite hoodie. I look like a murder hobo, which isn’t necessarily a bad look. BUT, because the world has betrayed me in these smallest of slights, I’ve decided to do nothing — except try and watch this 40-minute beer commercial.
Yep. 40 minutos.
Recently, Beer52 (one of the UK’s most popular craft beer clubs) released an absurdly long but fairly clever little marketing ploy. They released a 40-minute commercial for their beer-of-the-month services, and it’s, well, not terrible (like anyone’s ever watched the whole thing, so who really knows?). According to Ad Week:
“We read that ad agencies are making commercials that are maybe five seconds long, on account of how short people’s attention spans have become,” says [Beer52] co-founder Fraser Doherty. “That told us everything we needed to know. We were going to go the other way and shoot what is probably the world’s longest beer ad ever.”
Fun idea. Caught our attention. And hey, who doesn’t love getting beer in the mail? I’m lucky enough to experience this on a regular basis and can confirm its excellence. Beer52’s resident beer experts claim to have visited breweries all around the world in the search of the most interesting brews they can find. They then deliver a carefully curated case of that craft beer every month. It costs £24 for 8 beers or £29 for 10 beers on a monthly plan (do your exchange rate right here). I have no idea if they ship to the United States. IT’S MONDAY! Do your own research, lazy.
Comedian Lee McQueen plays Beer Buddy above — feel free to watch him drink and do various mundane things for the rest of your Monday morning. Might be slightly more tolerable than working.
