Smokejumper Imperial Porter: Here’s to smoke in your glass, not in the woods

February 6, 2013Keith Gribbins

On our bold beer scale, Left Hand Brewing Co. is near at the top. Its stouts and porters are a benchmark for brazen flavor. One of its most fearless would have to be the Smokejumper Imperial Porter, which is only brewed in limited quantities each year. Smokejumpers are those fearless wild land firefighters who specialize in parachuting into the wilderness to fight terribly dangerous forest fires. Smokejumper Imperial Porter is a tribute to them — a 21 degree plato porter made with barley malt hand-smoked by Left Hand brewers. Malts include Rauch, two-row, hand-smoked, chocolate, Cara Aroma, roasted barley and wheat. Hops include Magnum and Mt. Hood. Smokejumper is the official beer of the National Smokejumper Association. See why in the video above.
