This Get Your Drink On app gifts beer money to a phone’s digital wallet, so please send me some

April 15, 2021Keith Gribbins

As you might expect, over the last year plus consumers have increasingly looked online to buy alcohol and beer as the perfect gift for a pandemic-coping recipient. According to a previous Drizly report via the The Beer Flow (Drizly is the United States’ biggest online alcohol delivery retailer):

Prior to the pandemic, gifts represented about 3% of all orders on Drizly, with a typical holiday surge to around 9%. When large gatherings and in-person celebrations were curtailed throughout spring of 2020, share of gift orders increased by about 2%. Holiday 2020 represented an all-time-high for gifting, at an unprecedented 19% of order share.

Drizly certainly isn’t the only game in town or the only online gifting format for beer. Here’s a new one — Get Your Drink On — or as we like to call it GYDO. It’s a new mobile app that allows users to gift a drink to family, friends, enemies, whoever, and they could be located anywhere around the world. It’s now free to download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. From the press release:

“[Cofounder] Ryan [Williams] and I were both expats when we created GYDO, and designed the mobile app with human connection in mind after experiencing first-hand the emotional toll that takes hold after missing out on so many of life’s important moments that we would otherwise be present for had it not been for the distance,” said GYDO Co-Founder, Rachel H. van Gorp. “At a time when being connected to loved ones matters more than ever before, GYDO is pioneering the drink-gifting revolution by providing users with a unique way to virtually join the celebration with friends and family.”

She’s convinced me. E-mail [email protected] about gifting to my personal account. Send me a virtual GYDO Drink Card, which can be stored in my digital phone wallet. The GYDO Drink Card can be used to purchase a beer, cocktail, glass of wine, maybe some weird favor (be creative) at any brewery, winery or bar that accepts Apple Pay or Google Pay.
