A very quick look (29 seconds) at Avondale Brewing’s bottling line

February 20, 2014Keith Gribbins

Last September, Avondale Brewing Co. started bottling some of its excellent craft beer, and there was much rejoicing. The brewery started with its Spring Street Saison, which was made available in 22.5-ounce bottles Oct. 1. It announced distribution of its second bottled beer, Vanillaphant Porter, through distributor AlaBev back in November. Originally, Avondale Brewing had planned to begin bottling in the spring of 2013, but its plans were delayed by a backlog of label applications before the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. But today (at least according to this video), the bottling line looks to be running smoothly. There’s a quick, 29 second look above.

Fun fact on the brewery from Beer Street Journal:

There is an elephant theme to Avondale Brewing Co. in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. The reason dates back over a hundred years. Local legend says a local circus owner lost a game of cards, and Avondale won “Miss Fancy” the elephant. The building that now holds the brewery has as much history as the city, once housing a bank, a post office, firehouse and saloon — with a purported brothel. Even more local legend states the brewery is haunted by “Meredith,” a previous resident of said house of ill repute.
