Brewers survey: How important is yeast cell count, viability to you?

Yeast is a wild living thing — an ecological tribute to evolution – which can make it a tricky ingredient for the brewer, who craves repeatability in process and consistency in flavor. It is vital for that perfect brew, but taming it within a standardized process can be a challenge.

But hey, you’re a brewer, so you know this. But here’s what we want to know: Just how big of a challenge is it? And what solutions might help improve yeast quality assurance within your brewery?

To answer those questions, we launched our first Brewer’s Survey on the topic of yeast quality and hope that all of you could take a few minutes of your time to share your insight. Thanks to survey sponsor ABER Instruments, respondents will be entered into a randomized drawing for a $100 Visa gift card or some CBB swag.

Questions include:

  • What is your view on the importance of yeast measurement within your brewery?
  • Do you consider yeast counting/viability to be subjective, depending on who is doing the counting?
  • Which yeast measurement are you most interested in as a craft brewer?

And so on. Just a handful of questions to pick your brains — and your answers just may lead to more innovative solutions in this area of the industry. Or, you could win a CBB hat. Either way, not a bad use of two minutes, right?
