Bryn Mawr Brewing’s aiming to revamp historic Minneapolis neighborhood with production brewery

Here’s a Twin Cities’ craft beer update. Bryn Mawr Brewing Co., located in the excellent Bryn Mawr neighborhood of west Minneapolis, has some special news it would like to share with you, CBB reader. Bryn Mawr’s full-production brewery and taproom is set to open in late 2015/early 2016 and will specialize in classic European beer. Now the upstart brewery has announced the signing of its 10-year lease in the Glenwood development located at 225 Thomas Ave. N in Bryn Mawr — a decision partly aimed at helping turn that historic location into a contemporary new business campus — which will also feature space for trendy restaurants and modern offices.

“This is such an exciting time to be a part of this community,” said Jim Moore of Bryn Mawr Brewing Co. “The support we’ve received from the Bryn Mawr and Harrison neighborhoods and the city of Minneapolis has been tremendous! This redevelopment project will have an incredible impact on and reenergize this historic part of town and Bryn Mawr Brewing Co. is thrilled to be a part of it.”

The location was home to the Glenwood Inglewood Water Co. and the Fruen Mill throughout the late 19th and much of the 20th century, but has sat vacant for many years. Bryn Mawr Brewing is the development’s third tenant and will be located in a 18,000-square foot warehouse on the southeast end of the business campus. The brewery has hired Minneapolis based LSE Architects to lead the design of its new residence. Along with a full production brewery mentioned above, the location is slated to feature a European themed tap room and an outdoor beer garden on the banks of neighboring Bassett Creek.

The building that Bryn Mawr Brewing Co. will be housed in was originally built in the 1990s and served as the bottling plant for the Glenwood Inglewood Water Company. For over 50 years, the company bottled water from the site’s natural springs and distributed it across the Midwest before being sold to the Colorado based Deep Rock Water Co. Bryn Mawr Brewing plans to use these same springs in its brewing process.

At Glenwood LLC purchased the 63,000-square-foot site in March of 2014 and is leading the redevelopment of the site. The entity is related to PUSH Interactive, a digital advertising company that currently anchors the site.

“Our partners and our company are looking to turn this into a fun and exciting place to work, play, eat, and potentially even live” said Haig Newton of PUSH Interactive. “This is a unique and historic spot in Minneapolis and we’re revitalizing it to its original vibrancy by inviting exciting businesses and creative people to join us.”

Construction on Bryn Mawr Brewing’s brewery will begin later this summer with the expectation of opening to the public in late 2015 or early 2016. Development of the site will continue over the next two years with plans for a three to four-story modern office complex, public walkways and natural space along Bassett Creek and a rooftop event space.

Construction will begin later this summer with the expectation of opening to the public in late 2015 or early 2016.
