Jack’s Abby celebrates 75 years of the Celtics and more beers to know this week

October 28, 2021Chris Crowell

Jack's Abby lagers

To celebrate the launch of the NBA’s 75th anniversary season and the fact that the Celtics are one of the original teams, Jack’s Abby felt that the start of the season deserved something special. Just like the Celtics have new specialty uniforms, Pride and Parquet is getting a whole new look with a limited-edition label to toast to 75 great years. The label won’t be around long. It is was released this wee for a limited time.

“The NBA will be celebrating 75 years this season and the Celtics are one of the two original teams to keep their name and city for that entire history. That’s an incredible accomplishment and something to be proud of. We wanted to punctuate this moment with a commemorative, limited edition can that reflects the heritage and pride of the Celtics over 75 years and gives our fans something special.” – Rob Day, Senior Director of Marketing at Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers

Pride and Parquet is the Official Craft Beer of the Boston Celtics, and is part of a four-year partnership between Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers, a family-owned brewery based in Framingham, MA, and the sports institution.

Our Mutual Friend has four new beers coming in November, but I will fight anyone in my way to try this new IPA

Coming off the momentum of earning two medals—a silver medal in the Mixed-Culture Brett Beer category for Biere Ovale and a gold medal for Inner Light in the Australian Pale Ale category—at the 2021 Great American Beer Festival competition, Our Mutual Friend Brewing (OMF) will release four new beers in November. Among the upcoming lineup of beers, we are excited about a meticulously crafted West Coast-style India Pale Ale, Stacked Universe.

“Stacked Universe is a West Coast IPA that we’ve been working on all year trying to find the right hop combination,” says Jan Chodkowski, Head Brewer at OMF. “We’re finally ready to showcase this beer and I can’t wait for folks to try it!”

At 7.5% ABV, Stacked Universe is a West Coast-style IPA brewed with Colorado malts and El Dorado, Mosaic, Citra and Idaho 7 hops to provide an equilibrium of citrus, piney, tropical and dank flavors. Stacked Universe will be available on draft and in four-pack 16-oz cans on Nov. 4 at the taproom.

Boo! Sierra Nevada’s Celebration Fresh Hop IPA is back

Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.‘s iconic seasonal Celebration Fresh Hop IPA is back on shelves for the 40th year. Wow. Each year for hop harvest season, which typically occurs August through September, Sierra Nevada brewers travel to the Pacific Northwest hop growing region to select the most premium lots of Cascade and Centennial to be featured in Celebration Fresh Hop IPA. The premium picks are kiln-dried and transported to the brewery as soon as possible so the brewers can begin production of the beer right away to capture the citrus, pine, and floral notes when they’re at their absolute peak.

“We wanted to brew a beer that really featured what we love most about hops, so we chose to brew this beer only with hops that have been freshly harvested so the most amazing flavors and aromas can really shine,” says Ken Grossman, founder of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. “Hop harvest season is special time we look forward to every year.”

Celebration Fresh Hop IPA, while hoppy with distinct notes of citrus and pine, is well balanced with a subtly sweet backbone of caramelized two-row pale malt. It checks in at 6.8% ABV and 65 IBUs. Because it is a fresh hop beer, it’s recommended to enjoy as soon possible.

Ahoy. Earnest Brew Works pays tribute to the wreck of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald

In honor of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, Toledo, Ohio brewery earnest brew works (EBW) is re-releasing its popular Blackberry Sour Ale, Gales of November and, in addition, is teaming with the National Museum of the Great Lakes for a presentation about the crew at its downtown Toledo taproom. EBW continues to pay tribute to the 29 men that perished ‘when the gales of November came slashin,’ as described in the 1976 folk song ‘The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald’ by Gordon Lightfoot. A suggested donation of $5 per person will go to the NMGL that night while $2 per pint of Gales will be donated that evening to the museum as well.

“Last year was the first year for Gales and this beer sold out within a week so we have increased production for 2021,” said co-founder Scot Yarnell. “Plus, draft (kegs) have been added for 2021.”

Along with Toledo being home to the National Museum of the Great Lakes, Edmund Fitzgerald Captain Ernest M. McSorley resided in the Toledo suburb of Ottawa Hills before his death, which struck a chord with Yarnell and helped in wanting him to create a beer to honor the tragic event. With blackberry flavors bursting forth along a tart backdrop, Gales of November (7.5% ABV, 30 IBUs) includes Mosaic hops — noted for its berry medley aromas — and Huell Melon, which gives an intensely fruity smell and taste as well.
