Meet PuriCel, a new cellulose for filtration from Finite Fiber

June 23, 2020Chris Crowell

Finite Fiber

You might not have noticed this, but there has been significant consolidation within the natural fiber industry, particularly through M&A over the last five years. This has dramatically reduced the supply options for many companies. Responding to this global consolidation of cellulose sources, Akron, Ohio-based Finite Fiber is making its new PURICEL widely available via Pennfield Supply, LLC, a distribution company with sales operations in New Hampshire, Arizona, Ohio and Texas.

“Finite Fiber’s most recent expansion into natural fiber and organically sustainable products with the PURICEL purified powdered cellulose product line was in direct response to customer requests for a domestic alternative sourcing due to heavy market consolidation,” according to Keith Kleve, Finite Fiber’s President. “With the team at PENNFIELD, we have now assembled an impressive team of market specialists who are proven industry professionals, dedicated to providing the service our customers desire.”

What’s cool about PURICEL?

PURICEL pure cellulose filter aid is FDA approved for food and beverage contact. PURICEL wets out quickly, which effectively coats filter grids and elements for the most effective and efficient filtration characteristics, uniform cake formation and easy removal. It is an effective depth filtration media which improves dirt holding capacity of the cake, resulting in upwards of 5x longer filter cycles. PURICEL is certified as a Kosher and Halal food grade material.

This fibrous matrix also serves to protect the filter screens, virtually eliminates bleed-through, adds cake stability and allows for a quick and clean cake release at the end of the filter cycle.

  • Establish immediate filtrate clarity.
  • Maintain filtrate clarity.
  • Prevent blinding of filter septum.
  • Increase filter flow rates.
  • Improve filtration cycle times.
  • Enhance cake release and discharge.
  • Prolong septum life.
  • Improve filter cake stability.
  • Prevent diatomaceous earth (DE) breakthrough when used in combination with DE.
  • Use as an absorbent for oils and waxy contaminants.

Established in 1921, Finite Fiber has industry-leading knowledge and expertise in the application and production of custom natural and synthetic engineered fibers. Pennfield Supply brings strategically placed sales/distribution centers along with over 25 years of intimate knowledge and implementation experience with natural, organic cellulose in the myriad of products and industries in which it is used.

Why this partnerhip matters

In this landscape, Finite Fiber and PENNFIELD have taken a customer-centric approach to the business, returning product and service options to the marketplace and strengthening supplier customer relationships. The industry is turning to suppliers like Finite Fiber and distributors like PENNFIELD for help mitigating the risks caused by the aforementioned consolidations. The new agreement with PENNFIELD covers sales & distribution of Finite Fiber’s wet filtration products and services in particular for the food and beverage industries.

“We are very pleased to partner with PENNFIELD in further developing the market in North America for Finite Fiber’s full range of liquid filtration products and services,” Kleve added. “The announcement of our partnership with PENNFIELD is a part of a comprehensive strategic initiative to build deep local partnerships by offering customers supply options and solutions to customers’ advanced filtration needs.”
