The craft brewing industry employs more than 150,000 individuals in the U.S. alone and has been steadily expanding for the past several years. Whether you’re a serious homebrewer or already working in the industry, UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education’s renowned brewing programs and courses will give you the skills to take your beer—and your career—to the next level. Join up this winter and/or spring for a variety of online and in-person offerings.

Last chance to apply! Application deadline is February 1.

Master Brewers Certificate Program | Taught in a classroom facility at Sudwerk Brewing Company in Davis, this 15-week, full-time, comprehensive program allows students to learn, observe and practice brewing operations on Sudwerk’s 65-barrel Steinecker system. In-Person March 7 – June 17, 2022 • $16,000.

For early professional brewers and advanced homebrewers looking to sharpen their skills, there is still time to enroll in the following courses:

Advanced Wort Production: Milling, Mashing & Lautering | For brewers looking to sharpen their skills, this course will dig deep into the science and engineering of wort production. Andy Hooper, Brewmaster at Seismic Brewing Company, will be your guide over the course of a three-hour webinar as you explore everything from the fundamentals to advanced techniques of wort production and learn how to apply these principles to improve your brewing. Online. January 20, 2022 • $75

Introduction to Practical Brewing | This in-depth course uses the amazing resources of the 1.5-barrel pilot brewery in the state-of-the-art brewing facility on the UC Davis campus. This class combines clear and detailed lectures with practical, hands-on brewing and laboratory tests. Go all the way from raw material selection to the quality and stability of the finished beer. In-Person. March 21 – 25, 2022 • $1,400

Looking to brush up on a specific brewing topic? Check out the courses offered in the spring in their popular online Beer Quality series, where brewing legend, Charlie Bamforth, guides you through the key markers of beer quality: flavor, foam, color/clarity, freshness and quality systems. Upon successful completion of each course, you will earn a digital badge demonstrating your knowledge of the subject matter.

Beer Quality: Flavor | Learn at your own pace how to control and improve the flavor of beer. Through a series of engaging and informative lectures, you will learn how beer flavor is detected, created and assessed. By the end of this course, you will have gained practical knowledge on how to achieve the desired flavor and aroma in your brews. Online. April 4 – June 26, 2022 • $299

Beer Quality: Foam | As it is one of the most distinctive qualities of beer, achieving the perfect foam is a precise art. In this course, you’ll learn at your own pace how foam affects beer quality. The “Pope of Foam”, Charlie Bamforth, will coach you on the science behind foam, how to measure and assess it and how to achieve the ideal head of beer. Online. April 24, 2022 • $299
