Melvin Brewing comes up with the best beer name pun we’ve seen in years

November 15, 2017Chris Crowell

Melvin Brewing is the best brewery you will probably never visit. It’s located in Jackson, Wyoming, is taking home beer medals left and right, has hired freaking Hacksaw Jim Duggan as its brand ambassador and, if that weren’t enough, it possibly just came up with the best beer name pun we’ve seen in a long time. We don’t make that claim lightly. As people who write headlines for a living, we probably take puns more seriously than beer or journalism.

This new beer was brewed specifically for those that get after it in the mountains and is called (are you ready?): The Pils-gnar. That’s art, right there. Subtle, simple and beautiful. And the cans are awesome, too.

Collaborating with fellow ski bums, neighbors and old friends at Teton Gravity Research, Melvin Brewing and Teton Gravity Research are going all in with the first-ever collaboration between these two Wyoming icons.

This collaboration is actually two decades of season passes in the making. In a friendship that was born on the lifts at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort more than 20 years ago, Pils-gnar is 20 years of gnarly ski porn meets the most madness-infused German-style pilsner ever made for legit ski bums like you.

The Pils-gnar is available in an exclusive release at select locations beginning November 8. Pils-gnar uses slightly sweet malt under a canopy of bright, tangy, flowery hops to achieve an aroma that’s spicy and fruity at the same time. It has a balanced finish that just begs another quaff … in the lot, on the chair, out the back of your truck, in the brewery or on the porch.
