Marble Brewery is the one who knocks with Breaking Bad-inspired beers

July 23, 2013Jason Morgan

At Craft Brewing Business, we love a good reference (our stories often feature a wink or two to our favorite pieces of pop culture). That’s why we salute the two new beers from Albuquerque’s Marble Brewery inspired by the two sides of Breaking Bad’s Walter White character just in time for the final season’s premiere. The themed beers were created as a tribute to the show that has become a part of the fabric of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

To mimic the dark side of Walter White’s character, Heisenberg’s Dark is a 6.5-percent ABV Indian Black Ale. Brewmaster and Marble Brewery co-founder Ted Rice describes the beer as having a roasty malt profile and a lovely citrus punch courtesy of Australian Galaxy hops.

The family man side of White is represented through Walt’s White Lie, an India White Ale. The 7.5-percent ABV brew is a smooth and earthy malt base with big tropical notes from Galaxy hops.

The two brews will be released on Aug. 8 a few days before the final season debuts on Aug. 11. Marble plans to brew about 60 kegs of each style of beer, which are not licensed by AMC. Heisenberg’s Dark and Walt’s White Lie will be available exclusively on tap through Marble Brewery’s distribution network in New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado.

Marble Brewery’s beers have appeared in the show several times and members of the cast have visited the brewery on occasion.

“As a brewer and fan of the show, it was truly a thrill to see my beer in Breaking Bad. Brewing these two beers is my way of saying, ‘thank you,’” said Rice.

Beer is not the only product/experience to come out of Breaking Bad’s hometown and film location. Albuquerque businesses have capitalized on the TV show’s popularity by offering everything from film location tours by bike and trolley to product offerings that include Breaking Bad-inspired candy and bath salts. The destination has made it possible for visitors to experience a Breaking Bad vacation, without actually being bad.
