Maryland brewer appointed to Brewers Association’s board of directors

February 4, 2015Chris Crowell

The Brewers Association of Maryland (BAM) announced that Tom Flores of Monocacy Brewing Co. has been named to the National Brewers Association Board of Directors. Flores holds one of three seats dedicated to pub breweries.

Monocacy Brewing“We are thrilled to have a true Maryland brewer on the Brewers Association Board,” said Ben Savage, president of the Brewers Association of Maryland and chief marketing officer at Flying Dog Brewery. “Tom’s passion for brewing and his commitment to the craft beer revolution is unparalleled, and brewpubs across the country will undoubtedly benefit from his leadership.”

Flores began his career in Maryland at Wild Goose Brewery in Cambridge while studying biochemistry at University of Maryland. He left Maryland briefly to obtain a masters at University of California – Davis, which he finished remotely after accepting the role of inaugural brewmaster at Clipper City Brewing Co. in Baltimore. After helping to establish Clipper City, Flores joined Brewer’s Alley in Frederick, and also helped establish Monocacy Brewing Co., which thrives today.

Flores’ interest in the production of quality beer at the craft level led to his involvement in the Technical Committee of the National Brewers Association.

“This organization has proven its ability to serve our industry in a positive and enduring manner,” said Flores, who currently serves on the Brewers Association’s Technical Committee. His priority on the board is to continue advocacy for the highest quality beer industrywide.

“This is an honor for Tom, and his involvement on the Brewers Association’s board will undoubtedly raise the profile of Maryland craft brewing to new heights,” said Kevin Atticks, executive director of the Brewers Association of Maryland.
