Stone, Dogfish Head, Sam Adams take top ale honors

July 2, 2013Jason Morgan

Stone Brewing Top Ale America
Consumer Reports crowned Stone IPA as America’s Top Ale in a recent survey.

Everyone has a favorite craft beer. Tastes may ebb and flow with seasonal offerings, but there’s always that tried and true brew that you can count on. Consumer Reports released its ratings of America’s top craft ales and lagers.

The New York Post reported that Stone IPA, Dogfish Head 60 Minute and Sam Adams Hopology Collection Latitude 48 IPA took one, two and three, respectively, in the Top Ale section of the report, while Sam Adams Boston Lager, Brooklyn Lager and Anchor Steam Beer took one to and three, respectively, in the Top Lager category.

Interestingly, Shock Top Wheat took the fourth spot in the list of Top Ales. It’s from a brewery that is listed as a non-craft brewery by the Brewers Association, as Shock Top is owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev. The craft vs. crafty debate aside — the best craft beer is a matter of taste, and often that’s up to the individual. So, what’s your favorite craft beer? Let us know what you think of the Consumer Report taste test and sound off on your favorite craft beers in the comments below.
