Victory Brewing launches light-hearted ‘Let the Monkeys Out’ campaign with comedy tour, because you never smile anymore

March 9, 2020Keith Gribbins

The global apocalypse is approaching. The clairvoyants at the CBB office have officially confirmed with both Maya codices and Miss Cleo that the end is technically nigh. Melting icecaps. Unnatural disasters. A global pandemic. And the prince of darkness installed once again to our final four years in existence. It’s easy to understand why you’re so tense these days with the end staring you straight in the eyes.

Well, maybe some beer and monkeys will make you feel better. The craft pioneers at Victory Brewing Co. recently announced a 2020 marketing campaign aimed at funnin’ up its Monkey family of beers, in hopes of making you smile once again, because monkeys are inherently funny (especially once you’ve had a few tripels). As you probably know Victory Brewing has a family of Monkey beers — Belgian styles like the super popular Golden Monkey brand (a delicious tripel and the name of my favorite TV show), Sour Monkey (“Sour Brett Tripel”) and Twisted Monkey (a Belgian-style blonde ale with mango) and Tart Monkey (a new brand you can learn about below). Now Victory is pushing these fun monkeys with a quick comedy tour featuring Mekki Leeper (a pretty funny dude with the clip below). To the press release!

“With the intense political environment, social media craze and overwhelming noise within the craft segment, 2020 felt like the perfect time to introduce some much-needed laughter,” said Bill Covaleski, cofounder of Victory Brewing. “The Monkeys have an innate light-hearted personality to fuel the fun and encourage drinkers to stop taking life too seriously. At the end of the day, our goal is to create delicious beers that help our customers escape the stress of everyday life and to transport them to a place of content. The Monkeys have earned their right in the craft industry to voice that reminder.”

Starting in March 2020, the Victory Monkeys will promoted on a five-city comedy tour featuring Leeper, a comedian from Philly, now living in Los Angeles. His Comedy Central digital special Control Room is streaming now. His standup has been featured on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Just For Laughs: New Faces, Comedy Central’s Up Next, Comedy Central Stand Up Featuring and he was named a Comedian You Should Know by Vulture. Here’s the tour.

  • March 26th in Philadelphia at Helium Comedy Club
  • April 2nd in Washington DC at Drafthouse Comedy
  • April 9th in Brooklyn at The Bell House
  • April 23rd in Pittsburgh at The Improv
  • May 1st in Boston at Great Scott

There’s also a chance to win a trip to the National Comedy Center

Victory has partnered with the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, N.Y., to create a once in a lifetime experience for one lucky winner and their guest. The National Comedy Center is the United State’s official cultural institution and museum dedicated to presenting the vital story of comedy and preserving its heritage for future generations. Tart Monkey!

Coming in at 4.9 percent ABV, Victory has released Tart Monkey, a session sour ale with guava, that provides a tangy, refreshing, and sessionable spin off of Sour Monkey, the No. 2 sour in the country. Now, with this new monkey part of the bunch, the Monkey family provides a broad range of ABVs from 4.9 to 9.5 percent and features four unique sub-styles using the same Belgian yeast in Golden Monkey. Tart Monkey is shipping in March 2020 as a new inclusion in the Mystical Monkey Mixer Pack and also available on draft.
