Check out the TTB’s updated ‘processing times for label applications’ page

August 27, 2013Chris Crowell

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) updated the “processing times for label applications page” on its website to provide the most up-to-date information. Brewers churning out new brands and labels need to submit everything to the TTB for its approval before distribution, and the group hopes this new page will help those brewers better manage their processes.

View the new Processing Times for Label Applications to see the Current Label Processing Times chart, which shows up-to-date processing information for alcohol beverage label applications. The Processing Times for Label Applications page is updated daily to provide the most current information possible. The TTB recommends bookmarking the page for quick access.

Here is a mock chart to illustrate the organization of the current label processing times information.

Current Label Processing Times
Application Type Average Label Processing Time
(Calendar Days):
Today We are Processing New* Applications Received On:
Distilled Spirits Labels xx days Month Day, 2013
Malt Beverages Labels xx days Month Day, 2013
Wine Labels xx days Month Day, 2013

*New applications are those not yet reviewed. However, electronic applications resubmitted for correction always takes priority over new applications.

  • Application Type — The TTB lists the processing times for label applications by commodity, i.e., distilled spirits, malt beverages and wine.
  • Average Label Processing Time (Calendar Days) — This column gives the average number of days it takes to process an application, from the time it is received until approval or rejection. This includes any time spent sending electronic applications back and forth for correction.
    • Regulations allow TTB up to 90 calendar days to process label applications (see 27 CFR 13.21(b)).
  • Today We Are Processing New Applications Received On — If an application was submitted after the date posted in this column, the TTB has NOT performed its initial review of it yet.

Remember, if you file through COLAs Online, it’s as easy as logging into your COLAs Online account — available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — to check on the status of your application.
